StrataScale has announced the availability of a new managed server environment that gives users on-demand control of automated server and storage provisioning via the Web. The new offering, dubbed IronScale, is an automated managed server hosting environment designed to provision and re-provision entire IT environments with a few mouse clicks. The approach is slightly different from some other managed services because it relies on physical servers rather than virtual machines. The IronScale non-virtual, dedicated-server environment offers users the benefits of both physical and virtual infrastructures by automating the provisioning of servers and storage.

The product is designed to meet the centralized network storage upto 200-user SMBs. 5TB (RNDP6350), 3TB (RNDP6310), and 6TB (RNDP6610) broadening the company s already existing ReadyNAS product portfolio. ReadyNAS Pro, the newest member of the ReadyNAS product family, provides up to 6TB of network-attached storage, enabling users across the LAN or WAN to store, back up and share digital data from a combination of Windows, Macintosh and Linux platforms.

ATTO Technology Inc. has announced that its Celerity FC-84EN, FC-82EN, and FC-81EN Fibre Channel Host Adapters have been verified by Brocade Communications Systems Inc. as compatible with Brocade-based Storage Area Networking (SAN) infrastructure, according to the testing requirements of the Brocade Data Center Ready Program. The program is an initiative designed to foster interoperability in multi-vendor Brocade-based data center environments. Testing was conducted at the Brocade Data Center Ready labs, which are state-of-the-art facilities supporting end-to-end interoperability and performance testing of SAN products in multi-vendor and large fabric environments.

RAIDPlasmon has re-launched its RAID product, courtesy of NetApp, with Plasmon’s software providing a two-tiered storage capability with online disk and online optical archival UDO drives - which can be taken off-site. The new NetArchive product integrates NetApp RAID technologies with Plasmon’s Archive Appliance and data management software to allow customers to provision data within NetArchive according to its unique storage requirements. It’s policy-driven with data moving automatically between the NetApp storage and the archival drives.

MaxtorSeagate Technology has unveiled a network hard drive that allows families to back up their media collection. The Maxtor Central Axis network drive provides up to one terabyte of storage which can be linked to multiple computers in a home, to allow for video, photo and music files to be centrally backed-up. Automatic back-up of the computer on the network can also be carried out by the Maxtor Central Axis network drive, removing the responsibility from the user to save data on the second system.

Xiotech Corporation announced that Albion College chose two Xiotech(R) Magnitude 3D(R) 4000 (SAN) systems, along with TimeScale(R) GeoRep software. The new storage systems and software will support the college’s move to a virtualized server environment, while ensuring student, faculty and administrative files are available and protected from natural and unnatural events.

Founded in 1835, Albion, Mich.-based Albion College is a private, four-year, liberal arts college. The school provides educational and research services to more than 1,900 students and 135 full-time faculty members.

To continue offering its students and faculty members new and improved technology services, Albion College needed to upgrade its existing IT infrastructure and stop server sprawl. From 1998 to 2008 the college added 50 physical servers to its data center, bringing the total number of servers to 70. Management of all these servers and their direct-attached storage was taking a tremendous amount of staff time.
